Giancarlo Meo

Giancarlo Meo

Italian record producer

Giancarlo began his career at a very young age.

In the mid-1990s, he created and launched the brand "Hit Mania," highly successful compilations that dominated the national sales charts. The success of "Hit Mania" is closely linked to that of some well-known Italian and international artists launched by his company. Among others, there's the band Lùnapop led by Cesare Cremonini, whose debut album "Squerez" became the most successful debut album in the history of Italian music (just shy of one million copies sold). There's also the hit "Dragostea din tei," the first international hit in Romanian, the duo Zero Assoluto, long-time radio airplay and Sanremo Festival stars with Nelly Furtado, the Roman artist Piotta with "Supercafone," a big hit in '99, the album "Obsession" by the Dominican band Aventura, another international hit, and "Se c'è l'ho fatta io...," the debut album of Checco Zalone. Additionally, he reintroduced famous artists like Franco Califano and Fausto Leali at the Sanremo Festival. He introduced Crazy Frog to Italy, a "virtual" character created to promote a mobile phone ringtone based on "The Annoying Thing," a computer-generated animation by Erik Wernquist. Crazy Frog created a global hit with the remix of "Axel F" (the soundtrack of the film Beverly Hills Cop). He produced one of the last albums by Franco Califano, "Non escludo il ritorno," a double album that includes eleven unreleased tracks, including the song presented at the Sanremo Festival 2005, as well as all the monologues.

Throughout his career, between artists and compilations, he has sold over twenty million records.
